Instructions For Authors

Turkish Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing is a double blind peer reviewed journal published by the Turkish Society of Cardiology Cardiovascular Nursing and Technician Project Group. The journal publishes researches, medical news, regulations, and abstracts submitted in national congresses of cardiology. The journal accepts manuscripts written in Turkish, and in English. The Turkish manuscripts must be in accordance with the Turkish Dictionary of the Turkish Language Institution, the Spelling Guide, and the Turkish Cardiology Association's Glossary of Turkish Terms of Cardiology. In case of lack of sufficient English language the spelling sent from Turkey, the text of the editorial writer can ask them to send written in Turkish.

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

General Format

All manuscripts should be written on A4 white papers, and 2.5 cm-wide margins should be left blank from all sides of the manuscript. The references should be numbered consecutively in the order of their first mention in the text. All text material including references, footnotes, and legends of tables, and figures should be typed double-spacing in font size 11 with left alignment, and without hyphenated line breaks. To set left indent for the paragraph click TAB button once. Fonts of Times New Roman or Arial should be used in the text, for symbols, and other special writing characteristics. Please use editing features of your word processing program to type bold, italic letters, mathematic symbols, and Greek letters, subscripts, and superscripts. Please take care not to confuse between letters O, and I with numerals 0, and 1, respectively. As measurement units only SI (International System of Units) system should be used. Abbreviations and acronyms should be written in parentheses following their explicit open forms or explanations given in their first appearance in the text. Please review the final version of the manuscript very carefully, especially for formatting, and editing errors. All pages of the manuscript should be consecutively numbered starting from the title page (1. page, title page; 2. page, Turkish abstract; 3. page English abstract etc.) Page numbers should be indicated on the right upper corner of each page. Final version of the manuscripts should be typed in “doc” or “rtf” format. Manuscripts submitted in “PDF” format will not be accepted.

Manuscript Types
Below are the sections of the article in the order of transition and explanations about that title.

Original Research Article:
Prospective-retrospective and all kinds of experimental studies can be published in clinics.
It should consist of:
- Abstract (Average 200-250 words: Turkish; purpose, methods, findings, conclusion and English; objective, methods, results, conclusion sections)
- Title page
- Turkish abstract and keywords (Average 200-250 words: Objective, methods, findings, results)
- English abstract and keywords (Average 200-250 words: Objective, methods, results, conclusion)
-Login
-Material and Methods
- Results (tables and figures, images numbered according to their consecutive order in the main text)
- Discussion
- Conclusion
- Acknowledgments
- Conflict of interest
- Funding  / financial resources
- Resources

It is preferred that the methods, findings and discussion sections should be handled with subheadings as necessary.

Review
Prepared directly or by invited authors. It can be prepared to include the latest medical literature for all kinds of medical features. It is especially preferable for the author to have published publications on the subject. It should consist of:
- Title page
- Turkish abstract and key words (200-250 words, non-parted)
- English abstract and key words (200-250 words, non-parted)
- Topics on the topic
- Resources

Case Report
Since a limited number of case reports is published, only reports which are related to rare cases and conditions that constitute challenges in diagnosis and treatment, offer new methods or suggest knowledge not included in books, and are interesting and educational are accepted for publication. It should be supported with sufficient number of photographs and diagrams.
It should consist of:
- Title page
- Turkish abstract and key words (100-150 words in average)
- English abstract and keywords (average 100-150 words, non-sectioned)
- Introduction
- Case Report
- Discussion
- Resources

Editorial Comment / Discussion: Authors are selected and invited by the Editor-in-Chief. This type of manuscript aims at providing a brief commentary on an article published in the journal by a researcher who is an authority in the relevant field or by the reviewer of the article.
It should consist of:
- Title page
- Introduction
- Resources
- Abstract, Keywords, Tables, Figures, Images and other visuals are not included in editorial comments.
- The title should also be provided in Turkish for works submitted by Turkish authors or from Turkey. The title of the manuscripts submitted by foreign authors outside Turkey will be translated into Turkish by the Editor-in-Chief’s Office.

Letter to the Editor: Letters to the Editor aim to discuss the importance of a manuscript previously published in the journal. This type of manuscripts should also include a comment on the published manuscript. Moreover, articles on topics of interest to readers within the scope of the journal, especially on educational issues, can be published in the format of a  Letter to the Editor.
It should consist of:
- There are no title and summary sections.
- Main Text (It should not include subheadings and it should be limited to 500 words.)
- Number of references is limited to 5.
- The article (number, date given) should be mentioned and the author's name, institution, address should be given at the end. The answer to the letter is given by the editor (s) of the editor or the article.

Scientific Letter:
It is the articles that discuss the general medical issues and discuss the subject by referring to the published scientific articles.
It should consist of:
- Abstract (100-150 words on average; non-parted, Turkish and English)
- Main Text: It should include Introduction, other subheadings and Conclusion sections and should not exceed 500 words excluding the references.
- Resources

Maximum word length, number of authors, references, and table/figures should be based on the following table.

PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS
Abbreviations: It is given in parenthesis where the word first passes, and that abbreviation is used throughout the text. For international abbreviations, reference can be made to Scientific Writing Rules. Manuscript files should be prepared with Microsoft Office Word. The online submission system will direct authors during all stages of submission and provide necessary support for accelerating the submission process. A list of the files that should be supplied through the online submission system is provided below.

1.Title Page:
The title page should have the following sections:
(1) Title of the manuscript,
(2) Open names and titles of all authors,
(3) Institutions of all authors, city and country names,
(4) Name, full address, telephone and fax number and e-mail address of the correspondent,
(5) Number of words (including title page, summaries, references, figures and tables).
If the work has already been presented, this should be explained as a separate line on the title page.

2.Main Text:
Abstracts:
It should be prepared in the text of the manuscript as it is stated in the Writing Types section.

Keywords:

- At least 2 pieces must be written in Turkish and English.
- Words must be separated from each other by a semicolon (;).
- English key words should be given in accordance with ”Medical Subject Headings (MESH) -
(See www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html).
- Turkish keywords Turkey Science Terms (TBT) should be in accordance with what
(See www.bilimterimleri.com).

Introduction

Briefly, the purpose of the study should be written with the available data related to the researched subject.

Methods

The study method, selection of the participants, and the methods used should be described in detail. For the known methods references should be cited. Novel or modified methods used should be described in detail. Doses, concentrations, routes, and duration of administration of the drugs, and chemical agents should be indicated. In the Methods section, under a subtitle, all statistical methods used for summarizing available data, and for testing the proposed hypothesis, and a p value criteria determined for statistically significant difference should be briefly, and concisely recorded. All manuscripts accepted for publication should be statistically evaluated in detail. Standard statistical methods should be used as far as possible. If rarely employed and novel statistical methods were used, then relevant references should be cited. In case of need, more detailed explanations about unusual, complex or new statistical methods can be provided in separate files for the readers as online supplementary data. Commercial name and version number of the statistical software package program should be mentioned. For statistical evaluations recommendations in the statistics section of the document entitled “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals: Writing and Editing for Biomedical Publication,” (http://www.ICMJE.org) should be taken into consideration.

Results

Results should be presented in logical sequence, and in detail as much as possible. They should be supported by figures, and tables. Information given in figure(s), and table(s) should not be repeated in the text, unless absolutely required.

Discussion

Mainly data relevant to the study subject matter should be discussed, and substantiated by references retrieved from domestic and international sources. General information irrelevant to the subject matter should not be dealt with in prolonged discussions.

Acknowledgment

Names of the individuals who contributed to the study but failed to meet the criteria of authorship should be mentioned in this section. Approvals of all the individuals mentioned in the Acknowledgment section should be obtained.

Conflict of Interest

All potential conflicts of interest should be declared under this heading. All affiliations with pharmaceutical firms, biomedical device manufacturers, and other service or product procurers relevant to the subject matter of the study should be explicitly indicated. If any conflict of interest does not exist, then it should be stated as “none declared.” Declarations related to conflicts of interest should be placed at the bottom of a separate page after Acknowledgments, but before References section. A Conflict of Interest Form will be sent to the authors of accepted papers.

Funding sources

Under this heading titles and /or names of the funds, sponsor foundations or institutions (if any) should be written.

References

References should be arranged in the order in which they are mentioned in the text and should be specified as a Top Icon in square brackets [] immediately after punctuation. If the number of authors in the article is 6 or less, all authors should be mentioned, in the case of more than six authors, "et al." should be added after the sixth author. The format used for authoring should be as specified in Index Medicus (see www.icmje.org). Congress presentations, personal experiences, unpublished publications, theses and internet addresses cannot be displayed as resources. Journal names should be abbreviated according to Index Medicus (see www.icmje.org); journal abbreviations can be used at http://library.caltech.edu/reference/abbreviations/. In cases where it is not possible to shorten the full name of the journal should be given. Notation and listing of the references should comply with the following sample reference citations:

Figure
Evaluation process of a manuscript does not start unless all figures cited in the text are submitted. Number of figures should be in accordance with the content of the text. Data presented in the text, and tables should not be repeated in figures. All figures should be sent in individual electronic file formats ready for publication with maximal dimensions of 12.5 cm x 18 cm. Illustrations in color should be in CMYK format and at a minimum resolution of 300 DPI. Figure depicted in gray scale should be at least at a resolution of 600 DPI, while minimal resolution required for black-and white illustrations is 1200 DPI. All figures should be typed in TIFF format. Any figure should not disclose or imply the identity of a specific individual. In case of disclosure of personal identity, written permission should be obtained from the individual in question.
Tables
Each table should be typed or printed with double-spacing on a separate sheet of paper. Tables should be numbered consecutively in the order of their first citation in the text. Number and title of the table should be placed just above the table. Do not use vertical lines between columns. Horizontal lines should be used only above, and below the headings of the columns, and at the bottom of the table. If required, explanatory notes should be written in footnotes. All abbreviations, and acronyms used in the table should be explained as in footnote in alphabetical order The following symbols should be used in the indicated sequence: *, †, ‡, §, ||, ¶, **, ††, ‡‡, §§, ||||, ¶¶. Each table should be referred in the text. If you use data from another published or unpublished source, required permissions should be obtained, and all these sources should be acknowledged fully.

SCIENTIFIC RESPONSIBILITY
The authors are responsible for the compliance of the article with scientific rules. In order for the article to be evaluated, a signed statement must be added to the submitted text that all authors have approved. After the article has been processed, the names and rankings of the authors specified in the Copyright Transfer Form are taken as basis. After this stage, the author cannot be added to the article at any stage except the authors who have signed the copyright rights transfer form and the order of the authors cannot be changed. All authors should contribute directly to the article in an academic-scientific manner. The name designated as the author must have all of the following characteristics.
-Planning or doing work in the order,
- write or revise the product,
- Sign or sign the contract,
- He must accept his final form.

ETHICAL POLICY
Pharmaceutical trials should be conducted in compliance with the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, and also approval of the institutional ethics committee should be obtained. These prerequisite criteria should be met, and indicated during submission process of the manuscript. Failure to comply with these requirements will lead to rejection of the manuscript for publication. Besides, criteria of Helsinki Declaration, Guidelines for Good Clinical Practices and also Guidelines for Good Laboratory Practices should be adhered to in all medical trials, informed written and verbal approvals of the patients should be obtained.
The Journal accepts the principle of guidelines set out in the guidelines for good clinical practice and compliance with the Helsinki Declaration Principles (https://www.wma.net/policies-post/wma-declaration-of-helsinki-ethical-principles-for-medical-research-involving-human-subjects/) for all studies involving the Human element. In the presence of such studies, the authors must indicate that they have performed their work in accordance with these principles in the MATERIALS AND METHODS section of the paper and that they have received informed consent from their ethics committees and the people involved in the study.
- If the animal is used in the study, the authors must indicate that they protect the animal rights in their work in the MATERIALS and METHODS section of the article in accordance with the principles of Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (www.nap.edu/catalog/5140.html)  and have received approval from the ethics committees of their institution.
- Informed consent should be obtained from the patients regardless of the patient's identity in case reports.
- If there is a direct-indirect commercial link or institution that provides financial support for the study, the authors are obliged to inform the editor on the presentation page of the commercial product, the drug, the commercial, the relationship with the company and if there is any (if any, the consultant, other agreements).
- If the Ethics Committee Approval is required; The received document should be submitted online with the article from the section on the Article Submission link in http://khd.tkd.org.tr/.
- The authors are responsible for the ethical compliance of the articles.
In the case of the evaluation of the article, if the publication board deems it necessary, it may be requested from the authors to submit the research data and / or ethics committee approval document related to the article.

BIOSTATISTICAL EVALUATION
All retrospective, prospective and experimental research articles should be evaluated biostratically and identified with appropriate plan, analysis and reporting. P values should be given explicitly in the articles (p = 0.025; p = 0.524). Research articles should be evaluated by a biostatistics expert before being submitted to the journal and the name of the expert should be included among the authors. Additional information on the biostatistics of articles sent to biomedical journals can be found at www.icmje.org. The authors are responsible for the compliance of the articles with the biostatistical rules.

AUTHORSHIP
All individuals listed as “author” in the submitted manuscript must make adequate contribution to the study, meet the criteria of authorship, and take responsibility for his own part in the manuscript. For the sake of outcomes, and integrity of the study, at least one author should be responsible for each section of the manuscript. The ICMJE recommends that authorship be based on the following 4 criteria:
1. Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
2. Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND
3. Final approval of the version to be published; AND
4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
In multi-centered studies, all individuals who are named as authors under the title of the article should meet all the above-mentioned requirements of the authorship. Searching, and providing financial support for the study and/or data collection do not satisfy the criteria of authorship per se. Besides general support or guidance provided for the study investigators is not a prerequisite for authorship. Individuals who contributed to the study in various ways, but fail to meet the criteria of authorship can be included in the “Acknowledgements” section after their written and undersigned permission. Please refer to ICMJE  (http://www.icmje.org/conflicts-of-interest/)website for more information about authorship. Increasing the number of authors unnecessarily is not an ethical code of conduct, which provides unfair academic prestige, and various advantages for those concerned. In this case, to prevent implementation of this unethical code of conduct, the editor may request from the authors declaration of their own contributions to the article, and publish this information if deemed appropriate. Sequence of authors should be based on the consensus reached by all authors. Due to differences in specification of the sequence of authors, the reported sorting will be taken as a basis unless otherwise stated. Authors can explain the rationale for a different sorting in a footnote.

COVER LETTER
Each manuscript should be sent with a cover letter, which must contain the following items that explicitly declare that:
1) All authors are meeting the criteria of authorship.
2) The submitted manuscript was not simultaneously sent to another journal or it is not presently being evaluated by another journal.
3) No part of the content of the manuscript has been previously published elsewhere.
4) The manuscript has been read, and approved by all authors.
The name, explicit address, phone, and fax number(s), and e-mail address of the corresponding author to whom all editorial correspondences will be directed should be indicated in this section. A brief paragraph emphasizing the scientific significance of the manuscript can be included in this section.

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION
Manuscripts sent to the Turkish Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing  (http://khd.tkd.org.tr/) must be submitted via the online delivery system. For questions or requests related to submission, and evaluation process of the manuscripts the editorial office can be contacted at [email protected]. In compliance with journal’s publication rules, the current state of the manuscript will not be discussed on phone. After preparation of the manuscript in accordance with the above-indicated requirements, go to the online submission system page. The first-time users should complete their registration. Then a user name, and a code specific to user will be sent to his/her e-mail address. For further details, please consult to https://www.journalagent.com/kvhd/ .There is no fee for article submission, article processing or publication.

REVIEW OF MANUSCRIPTS
For the publication of the article in the journal, it should not be published elsewhere, and deemed to be suitable for publication by the decree of the Editorial Board selected by Executive Committee of the Turkish Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing. The whole responsibility of the manuscript belongs to the author(s). Evaluation process of the submitted manuscript starts after receival of a document containing undersigned approvals obtained from all authors. During typesetting, and preparatory procedures of the manuscripts appropriate for publication a Copyright Transfer Form will be sent to the primary author(s) (“guarantors”) who will assume the whole responsibility of the manuscript.

All submitted manuscripts are initially evaluated by the editorial board. At this stage manuscripts not deemed to be suitable for publication in the Turkish Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing including those not complying with writing rules, and requirements or without adequate scientific content will be returned to the authors. Manuscripts found suitable for publication will be sent to reviewers for more detailed evaluation. Acceptability of manuscripts is dependent on originality, scientific content, and subject of the study in accordance with the publication protocol of the journal. All research articles deemed suitable for publication are subjected to a detailed statistical evaluation. Authors are informed of the editor’s decision about the acceptability of the manuscript via e-mail usually within 6 weeks of its submission. The editors do not discuss their decision on phone. All objections and wishes should be communicated to the editors in a written format. If deemed necessary, Editorial Board has the right to make modifications in the text without altering main concept of the manuscript. An offprint of the manuscript will not be sent to the author(s).
The manuscripts are scanned by the Publisher's Office using the iThenticate program for determination of plagiarism and non-ethical situations.
