Important Determinants in Cardiovascular Disease: Oral Health

Studies in recent years show that oral health is an important determinant of cardiovascular diseases. Having poor oral hygiene, increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. Protecting and maintaining the oral health of patients, the achievement of the habit to non-habits, counseling and educating individuals are in the responsibility of nurses. Nurses to fulfill their responsibilities are dependent on knowledge and skills of oral health assessment, use of appropriate assessment tools and perform of oral care practices. In this study, the importance of oral health in cardiovascular diseases was emphasized. First, the systemic effects of oral health was discussed, then the relation of oral health and cardiovascular disease was mentioned in detail and basic treatments were indicated.
