doi: 10.5543/khd.2014.006  Pages 48 - 55
Abdominal obesity, hyperglycemia, hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia and low HDL cholesterol levels which are used for the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome also are important risk factors for developing Type II diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The increasing prevalence of metabolic syndrome in women is associated with abdominal obesity. Nowadays, factors such as the increasing prevalence of obesity and metabolic syndrome, reduced mobility and unhealthy eating increase morbidity and mortality due to cardiovascular disease in women. The history of polycystic ovary syndrome, gestational diabetes mellitus and preeclampsia, and menopause increase the risk of developing metabolic syndrome in women. In our country, health care professionals must take responsibility for raising awareness of metabolic syndrome due to increasing incidence of metabolic syndrome especially in women. This review is written to provide information about the importance and causes of metabolic syndrome in women.

3. Vital Decisions: Perception of Symptoms of Acute Myocard Infarction

doi: 10.5543/khd.2014.007  Pages 56 - 65
A significant reduction in mortality from AMI with new therapeutic approaches in the last 30 years, used in the last 20 years with reperfusion initiatives fall by 30-50% in 30-day mortality was achieved. The most important approach in reducing the mortality rate, until it reaches the hospital initiative is to ensure early diagnosis and reperfusion. For reducing patient delay; It should be a normal part of the care of patients with known coronary heart disease to inform their partners and family about the symptoms of a heart attack and how to respond to it. Nurses spend the most time with the patient who is a member of the health care team. The nurses are important roles for patients and their families to raise awareness.

4. Determination Of Medical Treatment Adherence, Self-Efficacy Levels Of Patients With Essential Hypertension And Affecting Factors
Özge Vatansever, Serap Ünsar
doi: 10.5543/khd.2014.008  Pages 66 - 74
INTRODUCTION: This decriptive study was planned in order to evaluate also to self efficacy levels of the patients with essential hypertension and the affecting factors.
METHODS: This study was carried out with 94 patients with essential-hypertension who consulted to Trakya University Medical Faculty Training and Research Hospital Department of Internal Diseases Outpatient Clinic of Hypertension between 2009 September and 2011 March. Data were collected by using patient information form and Self-Efficacy Scale for Adherence/Adaptation to Medical Treatment. Data were analysed by percentage, mean, student t test, one way ANOVA test and Spearman correlation analysis was used to examine the relations between variables. P<0.05 value was consiedered as statistically significant.
RESULTS: The mean age of the patients with essential hypertension was 57.7±10.2, it was determined that %53.2 of the study group was female, %94.7 was married. It was determined that the adherence to medication/Adaptation self-efficacy mean point of the study group was 71.9±3.6. The adherence to medication/ Adaptation self-efficacy mean point of the study group is on a good level. This study determined that there is no significant statistical difference between personal characteristics of the hypertensive patients and adherence to medication/self-efficacy (p> 0.05). This study found that Adherence/Adaptation and Self- Efficacy levels of the patients with essential-hypertension who complied with adapted their diet are higher compared to the patients who were did not comply with their diet. (p< 0.05)
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Nurses should prepare with dieticians and other health professions appropriate diet program for patients with essential hypertension, implement nursing care plan to increase their self-efficacy levels of patients with essential hypertension.

5. Investigation Of The Effect Of Tele Monitoring On The Self Care Agency In Patients With Chronic Heart Failure
Berna Akay, Asiye Durmaz Akyol
doi: 10.5543/khd.2014.009  Pages 75 - 88
INTRODUCTION: The study aims to investigate the effects of using telemonitoring method on the self care agency of patients with chronic heart failure.
METHODS: The sample population was 40 patients (20 intervention, 20 control) who were hospitalized in the cardiology department and intensive care unit of an university hospital and who presented to the outpatient clinics with a complaint of heart failure and fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The Individual Identification Form, the Self-Care Agency Scale, the Structured Telephone Interview Form and algorithms related to the symptoms of heart failure were used as data collection instruments.
RESULTS: There was no significant difference between the self-care agency scale mean scores of the two groups at the baseline (t= 1.857 SD= 38 p= 0.071 p> 0.05). There was a significant difference between the self-care agency scale mean scores of the two groups at the 3rd month (t= 3.060 SD= 38 p= 0.004 p< 0.05). There was a significant difference between the self-care agency scale mean scores of the two groups at the 6th month (t= 3.100 SD= 38 p= 0.004 p< 0.05).
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The results indicate that telemonitoring method improved the self-care agency in patients with chronic heart failure.

6. Supraventricular Tachycardia in Newborns and Nursing Approach: A Case Report
Özlem Metreş
doi: 10.5543/khd.2014.010  Pages 89 - 92
Supraventrıcular tachycardia (SVT) is the most common tachyarrhytmia in neonatal period. Many neonates may tolerate SVT in early hours but longer than 6-12 hours with SVT may causes heart failure as a result of decreased cardiac output. İn this article, a neonate was dıscussed who has unrest, nutrition disorder, tachypnea and tachycardia in posnatal 16. days.
