1. Awareness Levels of Cardiovascular Diseases Risk of Menopausal Women

Objective: This study was conducted to determine the level of awareness of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in menopausal women.
Methods: The research is descriptive. The study included 253 menopausal women. Data were collected using the descriptive information form and Cardiovascular Disease Risk Awareness Assessment Questionnaire. Data were analyzed in SPSS.
Results: The mean age of the women was 55.79 ± 7.84. Of them, 50.2% were primary school graduates, 87% were married. Of women, 75.9% were unemployed, 54.5% their income was equal to expenses. Of the participants, 51% had a family history of CVD, 15.8% were smokers, 65.2% didn’t exercise regularly, 54.5% didn’t have regular health check-ups. Of women, 59.7% had a chronic disease, 54.9% were using regular medication. Women's mean Body Mass Index (BMI) was 29.84 ± 5.06 (21-46) kg/m2, 41.1% had BMI between 25-29.9 kg/m2. Women's perceived risk of heart attack/stroke mean score was 17.86 ± 3.39, healthy eating intention was 12.87 ± 2.67, and perceived benefits and intentions to change was 5.56 ± 1.52. It was found that the risk awareness of CVD differed according to BMI, education, employment status, income level, marital status, regular exercise, regular health check-ups, getting information about CVD prevention, and having lipid level measured in the last year (P < 0.05).
Conclusion: It was determined that the awareness of CVD risk in women was moderate. Programs to increase CVD awareness in menopausal women should be planned. In addition, factors that contribute to CVD risk, such as diabetes, smoking, and obesity should be screened.

2. Differences in Symptoms, Treatment, and Behavior Between Genders in Individuals with Acute Coronary Syndrome: A Cross-Sectional Study

Objective: This study was conducted to determine gender differences in symptoms, treatment, and behaviors in individuals presenting with acute coronary syndrome (ACS).

Methods: The research was conducted as a comparative, cross-sectional study. The study was completed in 18 months with 366 conscious/orientated patients who were hospitalized in the cardiology intensive care unit of a university hospital, which is a regional hospital in a city, with the diagnosis of ACS and volunteered for the study. The data were collected with the questionnaire questions prepared when the condition of the patients was stable 24 hours after their admission to the intensive care unit. In the data analysis, the conformity of the data to the normal distribution was examined by applying the Shapiro–Wilk test, and number, percentage, chi-square, parametric and non-parametric tests was used.

Results: In the study, it was determined that women had more comorbidities, showed asymptomatic symptoms, and were admitted to the hospital with the diagnosis of non-segment elevation myocardial infarction, while percutaneous intervention and angiography were more common treatment methods in men. It was determined that the diagnosis and some symptoms of women at hospital admission were different from those of men, and this difference was statistically significant. In addition, it was found that vital signs showed similar changes in both genders, the duration of admission to the hospital (30 minutes), transportation with their own vehicles at admission, and they did not consult anyone for symptoms. Their behaviors were similar, and there was no statistical significance.

Conclusion: According to this study, it may be recommended that health professionals be sensitive to gender-specific differences in terms of ACS and provide an approach by considering these in treatment and care.

3. Exploring Cardiovascular Surgery Intensive Care Nurses’ Perceptions and Experiences with ECMO Patients Care: A Qualitative Study

Objective: In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the perceptions and experiences of cardiovascular surgery intensive care nurses regarding the care of patients who underwent ECMO.

Methods: This study adopted the phenomenological method, which is a qualitative research design. The research was conducted in two intensive care units of a cardiovascular hospital in Türkiye between July and September 2022. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews. Content analysis was performed by translating the interview

Results: The sample consisted of a total of 16 nurses, 14 of whom were cardiovascular surgery and heart-lung transplant ICU nurses and two responsible nurses from this units. Most participants were women (75%). Participants had a mean age of 28 and 5.75 years of work experience in the units. They had been caring for ECMO patients for 4.5 years. Participants stated that their competence in patient care with ECMO was seven on average, but their current knowledge on ECMO education was insufficient. As a result of content analysis; five themes (ECMO as metaphor, ECMO perception, nursing in ECMO, Challenges, Requirements) and nine sub-themes were determined.

Conclusion: Our findings indicate that nurses working in cardiovascular surgery intensive care units are very experienced in caring for patients who have undergone ECMO, that patients with ECMO increase the workload of nurses and require multidisciplinary teamwork in care; demonstrated the need for a 1: 1 nurse-patient ratio and a programmed ECMO education.

4. Information and Behaviours Related to the Disease of Individuals with Diagnosis of Peripheral Artery Disease in the Lower Extremity

Objective: To determine the knowledge and behaviors of individuals diagnosed with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in the lower extremities related to the disease.

Methods: This descriptive study was conducted in a university hospital between 22 November 2021 and 29 July 2022, with 94 patients diagnosed with PAD in the lower extremities. A questionnaire containing 52 questions was used to collect the data. The data were evaluated with descriptive statistics.

Results: It was observed that 33% of the patients did not pay any attention to nutrition, 73,4% did not regularly walk/exercise, 45,2% smoked. It was observed that 93.6% of the patients had not received any previous education about PAD. 75,5% stated that applying heat directly to the feet/legs, 71,3% stated that raising the feet/legs above the heart level positively affect the disease. 69,1% of the patients stated that they did not know how the use of non-cotton socks and 67% of the patients did not know how to file the calluses on the feet. Although 53,2% of the patients checked their feet/legs every day, it was seen that 92,6% did not use any mirrors during the control, 80,9% did not know the heart rate.

Conclusion: In our study, it was concluded that the majority of the patients did not receive education about PAD, their level of knowledge about the disease was not sufficient, they engaged in wrong practices and their awareness of desired behaviors was low.

5. Current Technological Approaches in Cardiovascular Nursing

Technology is one of the indispensable parts of our lives. Technology that can serve/provide every field is also widely used in the field of health. Technological developments in the health sector are mostly made on chronic diseases because they result in mortality or morbidity. Tele-health applications developed for chronic diseases are one of the methods used for many years. With the spread of mobile devices, the concept of mobile health has also taken its place among these methods. All these developments have been used in cardiovascular diseases, which is one of the leading chronic diseases and results in the most mortality if not intervened quickly. This review study was carried out to examine the technological approaches used in cardiology nursing. As a result of the studies reviewed in this review, it was concluded that the use of technology while giving care to individuals with cardiological disorders increases the quality of life by supporting self-care. It is thought that technological developments in chronic diseases will be used more and more in the future.
